2019 Summer Session: Lodging

15th Annual Summer Session on
Contemplative Learning

Sunday, August 4 – Friday, August 9, 2019
Smith College
Northampton, MA

Attendees should plan to arrive between 3pm and 5pm on Sunday afternoon, and arrange to depart on Friday after noon (our programming ends at noon on Friday). There will be no lunch provided on Friday. Late arrivals can be accommodated; please contact Maya Elinevsky, event organizer, if you will be arriving later in the evening on Sunday.

Dorm check-in begins at 3pm on Sunday. Dorm check-out on Friday is at 10am. Attendees will be able to leave luggage in secure space until programming ends. If you are arriving early, or need to leave later than noted check-out time due to travel arrangements, please contact Maya  (maya@contemplativemind.org).

Residential participants will occupy Cutter-Ziskind House, which is located just across the street from the Campus Center, where all sessions will take place. Built in 1957, this dormitory was renovated in 2014 and is fully air-conditioned. Each room has a large window that runs the width of the room; each room is also equipped with a bed, dresser, closet, and desk. The wings of Cutter and Ziskind come together to form a courtyard.

Residential participants are provided private bedrooms, with shared bathrooms located on each floor. Floors will be assigned as self-identified male, self-identified female, or all-gender/gender neutral. You can select a floor on the registration form. There are also single-user, gender inclusive bathrooms with shower/baths on each floor of both dorms (6 total).

The rooms are equipped with Smith College’s standard dorm mattresses. Participants with back problems, injuries, or other ailments may bring additional padding for the dorm mattress. We also suggest that you bring layers of clothing, as the air is not individually controlled in each room and it may be warmer or colder than you prefer. Smith College housekeeping can provide fans as well as extra blankets upon request.

Meals will take place in the Cutter-Ziskind dining room. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided for residential participants, and lunch and dinner are provided for commuting participants. Smith dining staff are extremely flexible in accommodating special diets and food allergies; space to provide this information will be on the registration form.
