We are pleased to announce the recipients of the
2008 CONTEMPLATIVE PRACTICE FELLOWSHIPS
This past year, The Center for Contemplative Mind in Society took over the complete selection process and administration of the contemplative practice fellowship program, after ten years of working closely with ACLS (the American Council of Learned Societies). The competition was promoted widely, to include proposals from the sciences and from Canada, and resulted in the greatest number of applications ever, almost twice as many as in previous years.
The increase in applications attests to the growing interest in integrating contemplative practice into the classroom and the field of contemplative studies, but made the selection process very difficult. Among very many applications worthy of recognition, these were the strongest. We extend a warm welcome to the 2008 Fellows.
2009 MiEN Conference: Learning from Mindfulness
February 6 - 8, 2009
Philadelphia, PA
More information, including online registration, is available at www.mindfuled.org.
Mindfulness meditation has been practiced for thousands of years as a way to reduce suffering and cultivate inner peace. Current research shows that mindfulness also enhances learning and attention. There is growing interest in the possibility that this ancient meditative practice can support education and learning for both children and adults. Many educational institutions, including Stanford, UCSF, UCLA and PENN, have embraced mindfulness as an educational intervention by introducing it into their curricula and conducting research in the field. This three-day event will explore the uses of mindfulness in education.
